Schuylkill IU29 - Early Intervention Program The Early Intervention Program is a collection of services and supports designed to help families of 3 to 5 year old children with, or at risk for, developmental delays. These services/supports are provided through Federal and State funds at no cost to families. The services/supports include screenings, evaluations, trainings, referral services, and direct therapy. The child must exhibit a 25% chronological age delay in one or more of the following areas of physical, language, social/emotional, self help, and cognitive development in order to meet eligibility. Specialized instruction, speech and language therapy, vision therapy, occupational therapy, physical therapy, hearing therapy, assistive technology, and orientation and mobility are provided by Pennsylvania Department of Education certified and/or licensed staff. These therapies are provided in one of six I.U. operated Early Intervention specialized classroom, in inclusive child care sites throughout the county (preschools, daycares, nursery schools and Child Development, Inc.) and in home-based sites. A parent or others concerned about a child's development should contact the Schuylkill I.U.'s Early Intervention Program at (570) 544-9131. Specific referral information, such as a child's name, age, birth date, and concerns will be recorded. An Early Intervention staff person will contact the referral source to schedule a time and place to screen or evaluate the child. In addition, the Early Intervention program operates a Department of Public Welfare licensed daycare for typically developing 3 to 5 year olds and provides services to some children in the Schuylkill County birth to three years Early Intervention program through a contract with Service Access Management, Inc.
