Computer Programming

Computer Programming is a 1080 hour program that covers general computer literacy by introducing terminology and common business applications.  The emphasis then shifts to computer programming languages.  Several are taught on IBM compatible PC's and some on the minicomputer, AS/400.  These languages include: C++, Control Language, and RPG400.

COMPUTER LITERACY -.5 cr
Course emphasizes terminology, hardward components and setup, hard drive organization and file manipulation. Students also learn network and internet fundamentals & researching.

INTRO TO COMPUTER PROGRAMMING - .5 cr
Learn to construct, save and revise simple programs in C++. Constant and variable declarations are covered as well as simple flowchart design.

INTRO TO DATA BASE MANAGEMENT- .5 cr
Data base management includes file creation, adding, editing records and performing simple searches and sorts on data. Reports, other special forms and queries are also introduced.

INTRO TO ELECTRONIC SPREADSHEET- .5 cr
Learn how to create, edit and print simple spreadsheets. Formula creation and copying as well as formatting techniques will also be covered. Chart creation and editing is also covered.

NETWORK FUNDAMENTALS - 1 cr
Students will demonstrate a knowledge of network fundamentals, hardware components, common topologies, and common network operating system administration commands. As a culmination of the course, students will setup a small, working network.

INTRO TO C++ -.5 cr
Learn the structure of the language, how to write and compile source code, how to declare variables and constants, and how to format output and input information from the keyboard. Logic, looping and functions are also introduced. Emphasis is placed on documentation and structure.

INTRO TO MINICOMPUTER OPERATIONS - .5 cr
The student will demonstrate a knowledge of hardware components, terminology and common control language (CL) commands. Students learn how to send and receive messages, manage printer, diskettes and tape, and create physical and logical files.

INTRO TO COBOL - 1 cr (elective)
Course covers the creation of simple input/output programs, headings, math and logic operations. Learn flowcharting and printer spacing charts on the PC also.

INTRO TO RPG - 1 cr
Course covers the creation of simple input/output programs, headings, math, and logic operations. Physical file and logical files are also described.

INTRO TO CONTROL LANGUAGE - .5 cr
Learn fundamentals of control language programming.  Enter simple CL programs, define and use variables and expressions, and learn how to write logical expressions using operators and looping techniques.

PRACTICAL SHOP APPLICATIONS - .5 cr
A variety of practical applications will be offered for the student to finetune his/her skills acquired to date. The senior CAP project will also be included in this course.

INTRO TO VISUAL BASIC - .5 cr (Elective)
Learn to create projects in Visual Basic by setting control properties, working with controls such as list boxes, shape controls, scroll bars and check boxes and the introductory coding needed to develop such properties. Logic, looping and string manipulation is covered as well as including graphics into programs.

INTRO TO MULTIMEDIA PRESENTATIONS - .5 cr (Elective) With the multimedia presentation tool, learn to create, edit and run slide presentations using templates and text, clip art, transitions and audio.

INTRODUCTION TO WEB PAGE DESIGN - .5 cr
(Elective)
Using Web Page design Software design a web page with a variety of features. A knowledge of HTML commands is not necessary, but helpful for editing purposes.
