Machine Trades Technology Machine tool operators use various machining tools to shape metal to precise dimensions. They usually are identified by the type of tool they operate, such as lathe operator or drill press operator. General machinists are skilled in a variety of operations, and often switch from making one product to another. Applicants for this course must have completed ninth grade.
