Auto Body Repair & Refinishing
Auto Body repairers
repair and/or replace panels to conform to the original equipment
manufacturer's specifications. During this three (3) year program, students
will utilize the ICAR EDUCATION FOUNDATION's Advance-Tech curriculum. The
Advance-Tech curriculum consists of 200 models organized into 43 units
around seven (7) major subjects: Non-structural repair, refinishing, welding
and cutting, mechanical and electrical repair, plastic repair, and
structural repair.
REFINISHING
ASSISTANT FUNDAMENTALS - 1 cr
Refinishing safety, identification of hazardous
materials, VIN, paint code and color chip book, abrasives, masking devices,
sanding by hand and machine to prepare for priming, sealing and painting.
WELDING & CUTTING I - 1 cr & II - 1 cr
Flame and
electric welding safety. Identification and use of
all welding methods to properly weld and cut mild
steel. HSLA sheet metal and related metal plates.
NON-STRUCTURAL REPAIR I - 1 cr & II - .5cr
Sheet
metal repairs, panel replacement and alignment, body
filler identification and use, movable glass
procedures, and removal and replacement of trim and
hardware.
PLASTIC REPAIR - 1 cr
Identification, repair, and replacement of plastics
utilizing adhesive, fillers, welding, and
refinishing of plastics.
AUTOMOTIVE REFINISHING ADVANCED - .5 cr
Systematic priming and painting of single component
and two component products to spray single stage,
two stage, and three stage topcoats, utlizing
conventional, gravity feed, and HVLP spray guns.
STRUCTURAL REPAIR - 1 cr
Minor and major damage analysis
to repair, partial and full panel replacement, application of corrosion
protection and stationary glass replacement.
ESTIMATING - .5 cr
Analyzing
minor and major damage repairs creating a manual and
computerized damage report.
MECHANICAL & ELECTRICAL REPAIR - 1 cr
Identification, repair and/or replacement and
alignment of the following: steering and suspension,
electrical and electronics, brakes, air
conditioning, cooling, drive train, fuel intake and
exhaust, and restraint systems.
REFINISHING SPECIALIZATION - .5 cr
Tinting,
blending and solutions to paint application
problems, identifying finish defects, causes and
cures involving single stage, two stage, and three
stage topcoats.
