Schuylkill County Area Vocational-Technical school has taken the initiative to provide the miners of the Anthracite region (Schuylkill, Dauphin, Northumberland, Montour, Columbia, Carbon, Luzerne, Lackawanna, Berks, Sullivan, Snyder, Leigh, Union, & Lycoming Counties) of Eastern Pennsylvania with Quality Health & Safety Training.

    Over the past twenty-two years, Schuylkill County AVTS’s Anthracite Mine Safety & Health Training Center has provided professional mine & health training (as required by the Act of 1977) to the Anthracite Miners who do not have the resources and/or the qualified personnel to conduct quality safety & health training.

    Schuylkill County AVTS through the Anthracite Mine Safety & Health Training Center’s resources and the knowledge of mine safety & health training has seen Anthracite Miners and mining companies become better informed and more safety conscious.  Because of this increase in awareness we have seen a decrease in mine accidents.  This is due to miners becoming more safety conscious, and mine management becoming more involved in the training of their miners.  This cooperative involvement in safety & health decreases accidents.
